I am someone who eats breakfast every day, but for the weekends, I go all out for breakfast. I like a nice spread of all of my favorite things, including the occasional mimosa. This wrap is perfect for weekends when I have a little extra time to make breakfast, and I want a nice treat.

What's in the Crunchwrap

  • Burrito Sized Tortilla
  • Eggs
  • Potatoes or Hashbrowns
  • Bacon or Sausage (Try Air Fryer Bacon or Air Fryer Sausage)
  • Creamy Taco Bell Sauce (Scroll below for the recipe and how to make it)

How to Make the Perfect Scrambled Eggs

Low heat is your friend! I often see people end up with burnt and brown eggs and it's usually because the eggs were cooked at too high a heat and temperature. No matter what type of stove you are using, gas or electric, keep that heat low the whole time.

When you see the eggs are reaching the texture you like, turn the heat off completely. If you have an electric stove you should move your skillet to another burner. Leaving it on the warm burner will continue to cook the eggs, which also results in the eggs burning.

Be sure to whisk your eggs really well prior to adding them to the pan. If this wasn't going in a crunchwrap (that already has cheese), I would add shredded cheese to the eggs while they scramble. You can do this if you wish!

What Type of Hashbrowns to Use

You can use whatever potatoes, shredded potatoes, or hashbrowns you like. When making this I used the frozen hashbrowns from Trader Joe's. They aren't something I use all of the time because they are cooked in vegetable oil. I air fry them while frozen for 9-10 minutes at 400 degrees, I make sure it's crispy.

How to Make a Breakfast Crunchwrap

Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Add hashbrowns, bacon, eggs, and cheese to a tortilla.
  2. Fold the tortilla to make pleats around the edges.
  3. Add an additional square sliced piece of a tortilla to seal.
  4. Sear or air fry.

What Type of Pan to Use to Get the Wrap Crispy

The best pan to use is a cast iron skillet. You can always count on it to deliver crispy edges for just about anything. You can also use a stainless steel pan. Those are also great for searing. In general, you want a pan that will sear well.

A tip to help with searing the wrap is to put something heavy over the wrap as it cooks in the pan. This will allow the wrap to really adhere to the surface and get really crispy. I usually place a cast iron over the wrap as it cooks since they tend to be heavy.

Air Fryer Instructions and Tips

You can air fry these if you wish. You can air fry them on 370 degrees for 6 minutes total. Flip halfway through at 3 minutes. You won't save any additional time air frying. For me, the wrap has more of a crunch when you pan sear it vs air frying.

Taco Bell Creamy Jalapeno Sauce

You can make your own Taco Bell sauce right at home using my Homemade Taco Bell Creamy Jalapeno Sauce recipe. If you keep a well-stocked spice collection in your pantry, you should have most, if not all, of the ingredients you will need. Scroll below to the recipe card for the ingredients you will need.

The great thing about making your own sauce is you can tailor it to suit your needs. I like for the level of spice in the sauce to be more on the medium side. If you prefer less spice and something milder, reduce the amount of jalapenos and cayenne pepper in the recipe. If you are looking for something really sweet, add more sugar or sweetener.

Calories in Wrap

The wrap has around 600 calories. You can easily reduce the calories by making each wrap with just 1 egg and/or omitting the cheese, etc.

Equipment

  • Cast Iron Skillet
  • Cosori Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 3-4 eggs Scrambled.
  • 2 cooked whole hashbrowns or ½ pound/1 cup cooked shredded hashbrowns
  • 4 slices cooked and crumbled bacon
  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 tortillas Burrito size works best
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Optional Taco Bell Creamy Jalapeno Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons ranch dressing
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika Regular paprika is fine.
  • ½ teaspoon sweetener or sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon finely chopped jalapeno

Instructions

  • Lay 2 of the tortillas on a flat surface. You will use the third tortilla to slice into a small square necessary close and seal the crunchwraps when assembled.
  • Layer the cooked food into the center tortillas. Start with the hasbrowns, eggs, bacon, and then cheese.
  • Fold the tortillas along the edges to create pleats. You will notice a small area in the center that is exposed. Slice off a piece from the third tortilla you have on hand. Ensure it will fit over the gap.

Pan Sear Instructions

  • Heat a skillet on medium-high heat with olive oil.
  • Carefully pick up the crunchwrap and place it face down (the side with the extra tortilla strip) in the skillet.
  • To anchor the wrap and to get it crispy, I place a heavy pan (cast iron) over the wrap once it's in the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until brown.
  • Flip and sear the other side for 2-3 minutes.
  • Cool before serving.

Air Fryer Instructions.

  • Carefully pick up the crunchwrap and place it face down (the side with the extra tortilla strip) in the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry for 6 minutes (flip halfway through) on 370 degrees.
  • Cool before serving.

Video

Notes

Air frying does not save you much time in comparison to pan searing. Pan searing the wraps using a cast iron skillet is my favorite way to make these.
If you are looking for a cheese pull for these, add in or substitute mozzarella cheese.
You can substitute plain Greek yogurt or sour cream for ranch dressing.

Never getting crunch wraps from the drive through ever again!! These are so much better and you can customize any way you want! I’ve already made them by the recipe and also used sweet potato hash browns, chroizo and black beans for my other variation! And the sauce!! Phew! *chef’s kiss*

This was so good! I couldn’t stop thinking about making this and after 3 days I finally did. It was crunchy and flavorful. I used sausage instead of bacon since that’s what I had on hand. I also had a small amount of refried beans to use to I tossed those in too instead of the hash brown. Very versatile and you can really put anything in it. Will make again.

Perfect breakfast!! I kept seeing everyone’s reviews on these and finally was able to give it a try! It did not disappoint. This was so easy to make and so good! I typically don’t eat condiments (don’t judge), but everyone raved about the sauce. It was so good! I didn’t have jalapeño so I’ll add that next time. This is definitely getting added to the meal rotation at my house. And if you have little ones that need to see all their food this is perfect because they can eat the same thing. Just don’t assemble it into the crunch wrap. Thanks for this great recipe!

I made this for my family, and they loved it! My husband said it was a nice change of pace from a typical breakfast burrito. You dropped this recipe not long after I went vegan, and I knew I had to find a way to make a vegan version of it for myself so that I could enjoy it with my family. I did! I used plant based egg and cheese, regular old hash browns and a whole-grain tortilla; I even made a cashew-based Taco Bell sauce- following your recipe for the seasonings - and it was delicious! And, of course, being from New Mexico, we had to add roasted green chile to the wraps because we add green chile to everything!
