What Type of Chicken to Use

I love to use party wings that are already split as opposed to whole chicken wings. Party wings will cook at a more even temperature. Feel free to use whole chicken wings if you like.

How to Make Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. I love to marinate chicken wings. This helps add flavor to the chicken and produces so much flavor. If you wish to marinate, drizzle the soy sauce over the chicken in a Ziploc bag.
  2. Next, add the spices and shake. Remove all of the air from the bag and seal. Store in the fridge for at least an hour to overnight.
  3. You can make these wings as spicy as you wish.
  4. Cook the chicken to your desired level of crunch. Every air fryer is different. The same exact cooking time isn’t going to work for every brand.

How to Make Breaded Wings

You can use 1-2 tablespoons of baking powder or ⅓ cup to ½ cup of all-purpose flour (enough to fully coat the chicken).

How to Reheat the Wings

The best way to reheat wings is on the grill or in the air fryer or oven. You can microwave if you wish. You can use the same cook temperature and reheat the wings until warm.

Freezer Tips

Leftover wings can be frozen for up to 3 months. Defrost in the fridge overnight and follow the instructions above to reheat.

Can You Use Other Types of Chicken?

Absolutely! Chicken tenders, chicken breasts, or chicken thighs will work. Click the links to check out my other recipes for cook time.

Recipe Tips

  • Consider marinating your chicken wings.
  • You can make the chicken wings as spicy as you like or not spicy at all.
  • Pay attention to the state of the chicken while cooking and determine how long it will need to cook.

How to Tell the Chicken Has Finished Cooking

Use a meat thermometer ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Ranch Dressing

I pair these with my Homemade ranch dressing. It can be really frustrating to search for a ranch dressing that is low-sugar. So why not make your own?

I combined a handful of ingredients, many of which I had on hand at home, and it turned out perfectly! I actually prefer this dressing to store-bought and I wish I had come up with this recipe sooner!

Equipment

  • Cosori Air Fryer
  • Air Fryer Oil Spray Bottle
  • Air Fryer Parchment Paper
  • Meat Thermometer

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings I use drummettes, party wings.
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup buffalo wing sauce

Instructions

Air Fryer

  • Drizzle the soy sauce over the chicken. This will help produce juicy chicken and adds flavor.
  • Season the chicken with the onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper to taste.
  • Place the chicken in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary. Do not stack.
  • Air fry for 15 minutes at 400 degrees.
  • Open the air fryer and flip the chicken. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes. Ensure the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Use a meat thermometer.
  • Remove the chicken from the air fryer. Glaze each piece of chicken with buffalo wing sauce.
  • If you prefer sauce that is baked into the wings, return the chicken to the air fryer. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Cool before serving.

Baking

  • Follow the same seasoning instructions above.
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes on 375 degrees until the chicken is crisp.

Notes

Consider marinating your chicken wings.
You can make the chicken wings as spicy as you like or not spicy at all. Add cayenne pepper for spicy wings.
Pay attention to the state of the chicken while cooking and determine how long it will need to cook. Every air fryer is different and cook times will not match exactly. Always use a meat thermometer to test the temperature for accuracy and safety.

These were excellent. My whole picky family loved them! The only modification I made was some extra of that fabulous marinade as a glaze (adding melted butter to it and a bit more soy sauce to temper the heat), and I glazed the chicken with this instead of hot sauce. They were delicious!! I can't wait to try some more of your recipes!!

in your video you use baking powder however in your instructions above you do not. also in your instructions you have in step 1 place chicken in air fryer and again in step 4

There is no video for this recipe. I’m not sure what you are referring to when you say I used baking powder in the video because there is no video. Yes, you remove the chicken and flip it several times. You also remove the chicken from the air fryer to coat it in buffalo sauce and return it to the air fryer.

I'm confused, It does appear your Steps 1 and 4 are repeated and in the wrong order. Shouldn't you put the dry rub on THEN place wings in the fryer? Then apply the soy sauce, cooking oil and start to cook. Please clarify! I'm so looking forward to trying this!

This is my preferred method. It is not out of order. Everything is written exactly the way I make my recipe. I always apply the soy sauce first when seasoning all of my chicken wings (this isn't the only recipe in which it is used). If you would prefer to do it the way you described, do what works best for you.

I never thought adding soy sauce would make air fryer wings taste so good. I love naked fried wings but this recipe is even better. I followed the recipe exactly as shown. I’ve made this twice. One time was in the oven and it was still good but the air fryer makes it amazing.

These wings are amazing. I make them at least once a week and they are devoured by my family the same day every time! I have started substituting the soy sauce for liquid aminos as it's a healthier option and I add Herb De Provence to the seasoning (got that from a recommendation you made on your Instagram stories). My mom taught me to cook by taste and not recipes but I can trust your recipes as written and they always come out flavorful! Thank you Brandi!

I will forever make wings in the air fryer because of Stay Snatched! They always turn out crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also this the tip about marinating them adds so much flavour. I don't remember if it was in a recipe on this blog, or on one of Brandi's ig stories but she has also added some liquid smoke along with the soy sauce in the marinade, which makes the wings taste grilled without having to leave your kitchen!

The best buffalo chicken wings we have ever made! So crispy, perfect flavor, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be making them again in the near future!

I’ve made these a couple times and they are now requested in my household. I love marinating the wings and can definitely taste the difference. So good!

I only make wings now using your methods. Never lets me down ever! Always crispy! Haven’t missed the carbs of traditional fried chicken since! Saw bottle of Frank’s in my cabinet and first thing I did was come to your website to see if I could find a recipe with it! And here I am you never disappoint!

These wings are the best! I have made them about 10 times and people rave about them. Not only is the recipe really easy, the wings come out super crispy and juicy (the soy sauce marinade is an amazing tip!).

I do them either with Buffalo sauce or as garlic butter Parmesan wings. So good! Thank you Brandy!!

Little late here for a comment, but we did this recipe for Super Bowl Sunday...OMG!!! Love it! The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the seasonings added the little extra kick for a truly enjoyable experience. But, will probably alter the the Seasonings for the next time - a little too salty overall, but still a great recipe!

Made these for dinner tonight but used the Primal Kitchen Buffalo sauce. So good! Also just purchased the Air Fryer cookbook and will be using it a LOT. 🙂

to die for. You outdid yourself on this one Brandi. the only thing I did different was to make my own seasoning mix instead of buying the Montreal Grill Mates Chicken Seasoning. Thanks for another great recipe

What a crowd pleaser! My family devoured these flavorful wings. My picky 7 year old came back for seconds and even asked for more veggies to pair with her wings. This will be a new go to recipe for us.

Easy to make. Great air fryer directions to get perfect results. As long as you keep Buffalo sauce in your house (which I highly recommend you do), these are all ingredients you normally have at home.

Awesome recipe! I made this for a quick dinner one night so I didn’t marinate the wings and then remade then and had the time to marinate, long story short, MARINATE!
