I love to make my own rubs and spices at home because sometimes the seasoning packets have unnecessary ingredients. Sometimes you can find a nice rub without the fluff, but for me it's just easier to DIY my own.

Pair this with any of your favorite barbecue sauces. Here in Kansas City, we love our sauce including Gates BBQ and KC Masterpiece.

Can You Use it as a Dry Rub For Meat?

Absolutely! This works great for chicken wings, chicken thighs, Instant Pot Pulled Pork, Air Fryer Ribs, and more.

How to Store the Seasoning and Rub

If you are making a large batch of the rub, store it in an airtight container. I love to use these glass jars for storage. Ground spices usually last for 6 months. After that they will start to lose their flavor. I check this by giving the jar a whiff. If the smell is still potent it's probably still good.

Whole spices will last up to 5 years.

Baby Steps! Did not have any BBQ seasoning but I knew Brandi made her own so here I am. I surprisingly had every ingredient and will be using it to grill salmon tonight. So easy to make and better than the “M” brand. Thanks Brandi!

How long will the Homemade BBQ Seasoning and Rub Recipe stay fresh in the refrigerator or freezer. I thought I would make a batch this weekend

It will last for 6 months outside of the fridge. I haven't tested putting it inside because it last so long without needing to.
