Why Use an Air Fryer vs an Oven

Roasted garlic in the air fryer just might be an obsession of mine! Using an oven usually takes 40 minutes, plus the additional time to preheat. With the air fryer, there’s no preheating and your garlic is roasted in about half of the amount of time.

How to Roast Garlic in the Air Fryer

Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Cut off the top of the head of garlic to expose the stems.
  2. Remove the papery outer layer from the garlic.
  3. Drizzle olive oil over the cloves and season with salt.
  4. Wrap the garlic in foil and air fry.

Can You Roast Peeled Garlic?

Absolutely! I typically buy pre-peeled garlic because it’s much easier to cook with. No peeling! The same air fryer procedures apply. You get to skip the cutting and peeling and just wrap the peeled garlic in foil with oil and salt.

Air Fryer Temperature

I recommend 380 degrees.

Cook Time/How Long to Cook

The garlic will need to roast for 20-30 minutes.

How to Store

Store the garlic in a jar or bowl along with olive oil (enough to cover the roasted garlic) for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Can You Freeze It?

Once the garlic has cooled, remove the skin and freeze in an airtight container or bag. Thaw on the counter at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • foil

Instructions

  • Use a sharp knife and cut 1/4 to 1/2 an inch off the top of the head of garlic to expose the stems.
  • Remove the papery outer layer from the garlic.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the cloves and season with salt.
  • Wrap the garlic in foil and place it in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 20-30 minutes on 380 degrees. Each air fryer will cook at varying speeds. Start checking in on the garlic around 15 minutes. The garlic is finished when it turns light brown and is soft.
  • Once cooled, I like to squeeze the garlic out of their skins. You can also use a fork or knife to remove them.
