Some Million Dollar Dips are too thick, too salty, or just taste like mayo. Not this one. My version is smooth, flavorful, and loaded with the good stuff so it actually tastes “million dollar” worthy. I’ve been sharing comfort food recipes for over a decade, and I know a good party dip needs big flavor and the right texture. Mine has the ideal mix of creamy, salty, and crunchy so every scoop hits. It’s the kind of dip that gets scraped clean and requested again.

Tips on Making the Perfect Dip

  • I like to use real, uncured, nitrate-free bacon in the recipe instead of something like Bacos. You will want to cook and crumble the bacon before you make the dip. I use my Air Fryer Bacon recipe to do this.
  • Use real mayo, not salad dressing. This is a creamy dip, and real mayonnaise gives you that rich, smooth texture. Salad dressing can make it taste sweet and off.
  • Shred your own cheese. Pre-shredded works in a pinch, but freshly shredded melts into the dip better and gives you a smoother bite.
  • Let it chill before serving. This dip tastes way better after it sits. Give it at least a couple hours in the fridge so the flavors can come together.

Frequently Asked Questions and Recipe Pro Tips

What is million dollar dip?

This dip has also been called Nieman Marcus Cheese Dip. Bacon and cheddar are popular ingredients among dip recipes. The addition of slivered almonds in this recipe is what makes it different from other dips.

Helen Corbitt worked for Nieman Marcus Zodiac restaurant years ago and later published a cookbook with a recipe similar to what you see here. The recipe used more mayo than I like, but if you love a lot of mayo flavor, feel free to add more!

It gets it's million-dollar name because everyone loves it. It's loaded with lots and lots of crunchy bacon (8 slices) and cheese. The combo of the two is astounding, yet simple.

What are some ways I can use the dip? What to pair the dip with.

You don't have to eat this the traditional way. This dip works great as a stuffing! I have used it in my Air Fryer Stuffed Mushrooms and Keto Stuffed Chicken recipes. It's so good!

Can I make it ahead of time?

Yes, you can make it up to a few days ahead. Store it in the fridge tightly sealed.

How long will it last in the fridge?

It will last in the fridge for 3-4 days, tightly covered.

Do I have to toast the almonds?

Toasting the almonds is optional. I prefer this because it intensifies the flavor of the almonds.

Do I have to use mayo?

That’s the base, but you can swap part of it with sour cream or Greek yogurt if you want it a little lighter.

What kind of cheese works best?

Sharp cheddar is the go-to. It gives you the most flavor.

Can I make it without nuts?

Absolutely. Just leave them out if you don’t want that crunch or have allergies.

Why does my dip taste bland?

It probably needs more salt or a sharper cheese. Bacon and green onions should also be bold enough to stand out.

How to Store Leftover Dip

Place the dip in an airtight container or cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. It should always be stored in the fridge when not being served. It will stay fresh for about 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator. After that, the texture and flavor start to go downhill.

Can I freeze it?

Because of the mayo and dairy combo, I would not freeze this dish.

Substitution and Variations Ideas

  • Homemade Ranch Seasoning
  • Jalapenos
  • Crab
  • Chicken
  • Artichokes
  • Roasted Tomatoes

How to Serve Million Dollar Dip

Serve this with crackers, chips, fresh vegetables, or on crostini. You can also add it to a snack board with meats, cheeses, pickles, and crackers. It fits right in and gives people something creamy to scoop.

This review is long overdue!! I made this as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. Since it felt different this year, we didn’t do anything traditional. I made this and boy I’m glad I did!! I made it with crab and that took it over the top!

Needed a bomb dip for the Super Bowl...and I knew who to go to! I saw Brandi share this recipe earlier this week, and it came in her email too. Hubs did not believe something “so simple” was gonna be that great. (It is just him and I watching the game.) So you know I had to prove him wrong since Brandi has NEVER let me down. And his face when he took that first bite...I wish I had a picture! This dip is perfectly creamy, salty, cheesy, bacon-y with a nice fresh flavor from the green onion. Literally dip anything in this? It is AMAZING! Also gonna try this as a sandwhich spread tomorrow for lunch. Another recipe knocked out of the park. THANK YOU Brandi!!!

I made this dip for the first time a month ago and was my husband's family impressed! Made it once again for Easter and now I am required to bring it to every family gathering. It is easy, delicious and I love how I can customize it based on each family members unique food sensitivities. Toasting the almonds definitely adds that bit of OOMPH that is needed! Thank you Brandi for your easy and tasty dip!

Hi, Can't wait to try this for an upcoming get together! I just have one easy to answer question. Recipe says to use 3 green onions, chopped. Is that both white & green parts? In the picture it looks like just the green part is in the little bowl. Thank you for the additional info.
