Doubletree released their secret cookie recipe! If you have ever had their cookies, you understand why it's a big deal.

Their recipe, however, is enough to feed a crowd. So I got in the kitchen immediately, to work on a way to cut down the recipe and to make it in the air fryer.

Why You Will Love this Recipe

  • Speed and Efficiency: Air fryers heat quickly and cook faster than traditional ovens, reducing baking time significantly.
  • Even Cooking: Air fryers circulate hot air evenly around the food, resulting in cookies that are evenly cooked and beautifully crispy on the outside while maintaining a soft, chewy texture inside.
  • Convenience: With their compact size and simple operation, air fryers are user-friendly and require minimal cleanup, making them ideal for quick, smaller batches of cookies without heating up the kitchen.

Why Air Fry These?

The most common reason I use the air fryer for dessert is during spring and summer months when it's hot outside. It is already challenging enough to keep the house cool, but turning on the oven amplifies that problem. The air fryer doesn't emit much heat and won't warm up your home.

Another reason to use it is for small batch dessert cooking. This recipe will make 10 cookies. A lot of recipes call for 2 dozen. Sometimes you just want a small batch for the weekend or other occasions.

raw egg, lemon, vanilla, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, and butter on a flat surface

Cookie Texture and Taste

These cookies are soft, warm, and gooey at the center and crisp along the edges.

They are made with a hint of oats, but you cannot taste the oats at all. They are made with quite a few chocolate chips so you won't miss any chocolate flavor. It really melts in your mouth.

These are also made with walnuts, which you can omit if you wish.

There's also cinnamon! The hint of cinnamon may be my favorite part.

How to Bake Cookies in an Air Fryer

  1. Cream butter, white sweetener, and brown sweetener in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add in an egg, vanilla, and lemon juice. Mix.
  3. Add in rolled oats, flour, cinnamon, salt, and baking soda. Mix for 45 seconds. Do not overmix.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
  5. Form cookies and place them in the air fryer basket.
  6. Air fry.

Air Fryer Temperature

I recommend 300 degrees.

How Long to Cook/Cook Time

6-8 minutes is the ideal time. Mine usually take about 7-8 minutes.

Can You Put Aluminum Foil and Parchment Paper in the Air Fryer?

Be sure to check out your user manual for guidance. My air fryer states that both can be used.

You can use foil for these cookies, but I recommend air fryer parchment paper. I find the parchment paper circulates the heat better than foil. With foil, I found the bottom of the cookies browned a little faster, making it hard for the center to set.

Why Lemon Juice and Baking Soda Are Used

When combining lemon juice and baking soda, it creates a chemical reaction that will add a puff to the cookies and make them softer and chewier as they cool. The cookies will not taste like lemon at all.

You cannot substitute baking powder for baking soda. You can omit the lemon juice, but the cookies will not be as soft and chewy.

Room Temperature Eggs

You will need to use room temperature eggs in this recipe. Room temperature eggs will mix better in the batter. You can read more about Why to Use Room Temperature Eggs While Baking here.

If you are strapped for time, check out this post on How to Get Room Temperature Eggs Quickly.

How to Warm Up Cookies

Reheat them in the air fryer. I reheat them on 300 degrees for 2-3 minutes. They will soften up again and will be good as new!

Freezer Tips

You can freeze the cookies after baking and you can also freeze the dough. Defrost the dough in the refrigerator prior to air frying.

Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons butter softened (1 stick)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar or sweetener
  • ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar or sweetener
  • 1 large egg Must be at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips I used monkfruit sweetened semi-sweet.
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • optional sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar in a mixing bowl using a stand or hand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  • Add egg, vanilla, and lemon juice. Use the mixer and blend on low for 30 seconds. And then blend on medium for a couple of minutes or until light and fluffy, scraping down bowl.
  • With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  • Line the air fryer basket with air fryer parchment paper. Scoop the cookie dough into balls (about 2 tablespoons) and place them in the basket about 1 ½ to 2 inches apart. Use wet hands and flatten the top of the cookies. The batter is really sticky. Wet hands work well while handling it.
  • Air fry for 6-8 minutes on 300 degrees.
  • Remove the air fryer basket and allow the cookies to cool for 5 minutes before removing them from the basket. If you handle them too soon they will not firm up and will crumble.
  • Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with sea salt if you wish.

Video

Notes

  • You can pulse the oats in a food processor if you wish. I don't do this. I don't find the oats compromise the texture at all.
  • Salted or unsalted butter will work, your preference
  • You can omit the rolled oats, the cookies will have less texture.
  • These cookies are crafted intentionally with a lot of chocolate chips. Reduce the amount used to fit your needs if necessary.
  • You cannot substitute baking powder for baking soda.
  • You can omit the lemon juice, but the cookies will not be as soft and chewy.
  • You can use foil for these cookies, but I recommend air fryer parchment paper. I find the parchment paper circulates the heat better than foil. With foil, I found the bottom of the cookies browned a little faster, making it hard for the center to set.
  • For larger cookies you can use 3 tablespoons of dough.
  • The macros noted above assume zero-calorie monkfruit sweetener is used. If you use table sugar the macros are: Cals:349  Fat:23G Net Carbs:26G Protein: 4G
  • To bake the cookies, bake for 20-24 minutes on 300 degrees.

Hello. My amazon oil bottle just arrived. Only thing is the funnel will not scure onto the bottle. Good thing I have another funnel that I can use. Love using it and it’s because of your recomendation that I purchased it.

Can’t wait to try these cookies – only thing I don’t have is the oats so will use that amount of additional flour instead.

    Thanks for sharing this recipe.

I am a chocolate cookie addict and these are some of the best I have ever made! They are the perfect consistency - firm on the outside and soft on the inside. The oats, cinnamon and lemon juice really put them above any other recipe I've tried. You HAVE to make these if you love cookies - or even if you don't!

The flavor of these cookies is amazing! The addition of lemon juice is genius. I’ve made these twice now and both times they took much much longer to get done in the air fryer. I made my final batch in the oven at 350 and they came out perfect in about 10 minutes. So, I’m sticking with the oven method in the future. The recipe is perfect, the method just didn’t work for me and my air fryer.

What’s the opposite of snatched? Because that’s what I’m going to be since these cookies are so good! I love the ability to make cookies in smaller batches like this, I made one set and froze the rest so I can pull cookie dough out to cook for an after-dinner treat here and there. I've tried so many air fryer recipes for chocolate chip cookies, and this has been my favorite so far. I left mine in for 6 mins and they came out so soft. Thank you!

These cookies are so delicious and this is the kind of quantity you want on hand vs a million (even though you could eat a million easily ?). I had to adjust my time to a bit longer for my air fryer, but this recipe is perfection. Will definitely be making these again!

Made these air fryer cookies over the weekend and LOVED them!! Such an easy recipe to follow and since I only live with one other person it doesn't always make sense to bake a dozen cookies all at once. I'm also a Type 1 Diabetic so I sort of combined the low carb chocolate chip cookie recipe with this air fryer one to accommodate my specific dietary needs and they were fantastic! The instructions are very detailed and as someone that isn't the best in the kitchen that makes such a difference.

Absolutely delicious! I have made the Doubletree recipe before but never in the air fryer. I had some dough leftover in the freezer and decided to try your air fryer version. I much prefer your method over the oven! The texture was amazing. Perfect combo of crispy and gooey. So easy too! Thank you so much for sharing Brandi!

These cookies are the bomb! This was my first time making dessert in the air fryer and I will never make cookies in the oven during the summer again. Thank you for this recipe. I made one batch and froze the rest of the cookie dough and am excited to see how those will turn out.

My fiancé surprised me with an air fryer today and I knew this recipe was the first thing I had to make. These cookies are delicious! The texture is perfect. I love the little hint of chewiness the oats add. I omitted the walnuts because I didn’t have them. I used an ice cream scoop to portion them out and got exactly 10 cookies. Thank you again Brandi for another amazing recipe!

This was the first recipe I have ever tried with the monkfruit sweetener, and I was hesitant, but it turned out so good! The dough itself is amazing, so if you can stop yourself from eating the dough long enough to air fry the cookies, they are just as good!! I did not have the lemon juice, so I know they were not as soft as they could have been, but I am totally okay with how they turned out. I am very interested to try baking the other half of the dough to see if there is much of a difference. Brandi, thank you so much for all that you do and for all the recipes!!

Months later, I have to make an additional comment. I have been banned from making these cookies because we can’t stop eating them. This time I used allergen-free white chocolate baking chips and dried cranberries. I make my other gluten-free and dairy-free substitutions and they are still fantastic. I use regular sugar because of my tummy issues, but my husband is requesting the sugar free version. Hopefully that will allow me to keep baking these.
    Thanks again Brandi!

I finally get a baking success! I love this recipe. I have tried dozens of different baking recipes during my fitness journey as substitutes for crazy high calorie stuff. And they all weren’t worthy of one bite. But THIS recipe is SO worth it! The taste is great, even with all the monkfruit sweetened ingredients I used. I also love that it’s a small batch, so I don’t overdo it and they keep so well in freezer or in pantry for a few days. The ratio of chocolate chips in each cookie is amazing too. Take it from a mediocre dessert maker, these are the best. If I can do it, anyone can.

Love this recipe ! I used a 1:1 gluten free all purpose flour and they came out great. I love that it’s a smaller batch - I froze 4 of them for later use. Using the air fryer is so quick compared to heating the whole oven for a couple of cookies! Brilliant !

Hello! These cookies have great flavor and so yummy/chocolatey... a super bowl hit! I had to finish them off in the conventional oven, however, because while the tops got crispy the bottoms stayed... wet! :0

Do you think it has to do with my air fryer being racks instead of a basket?

FINALLY made these. I got the chocolate salted caramel chips from Lily's, didn't use 1 1/2 cups, maybe half that. I still gotta figure out the timing for mine, I think 13 made them mostly cooked through but a little hard. But, I love the idea, and, I have some in the freezer now.

Ugh! This recipe looks amazing! I want to take a shot at them right now BUT I don't have any parchment paper and the one thing I can't stand are cookies that are hard on the bottom 😫.

I'll try them this weekend. I just got my airfryer and coincidentally, we have the same one! Hopefully mine come out as good as yours 🤞🏽

OMG. I was talking to my husband after dinner and knew I wanted something sweet. I thought back to this recipe because I knew she had made these one at a time and I didn’t want to make a dozen of these bad boys and have them tempting me in the house. They were AMAZING. Listen, you can have two glasses of wine and still make these amazing cookies - foolproof, in a small batch - so do it now. Thank you, Brandi!!
