Is Steak Good for Keto?

Steak is perfect for keto because it is essentially carb-free! I recommend using grass-fed steaks because grass-fed has a better nutritional impact.

Is Bell Pepper Keto-Friendly?

Half a bell pepper has 3 net grams of carbs. For this recipe, that value is divided among 6 servings.

eggs, heavy whipping cream, and shredded cheese whisked

How Do You Make Garlic Butter Steak?

This Garlic Butter Steak from Taste of Home is amazing.

How Do You Make a Juicy Steak?

The key to a juicy steak is a good marinade and flavorful liquid! Check out my Marinated Steak recipe here.

Is Hummus Good for Keto?

I wouldn't recommend hummus for ketogenic lifestyles. Avocado will work much better and has macros perfect for keto.

Is This Philly Cheesesteak Casserole Recipe Freezer Friendly?

Yes. I recommend that you remove it from the freezer the night before you plan to eat it. Store it in the fridge overnight so that it defrosts naturally before you reheat.

Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Meal Prep Containers

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds Butcher Box sirloin steak sliced into thin strips
  • 1 teaspoon Steak Seasoning I like McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup sliced green peppers
  • 1 cup mushrooms
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 oz cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup shredded parmesan reggiano cheese
  • 4-5 slices provolone cheese sliced into small pieces

Instructions

  • Watch the video above for step by step instructions.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Add the Butcher Box steak to a skillet on medium-high heat. Season the steak with steak seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes, flipping both sides of the steak.
  • Add the green peppers, onion, garlic, and mushroom to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are soft and the meat is no longer pink.
  • If there is any excess fat in the skillet, drain it. This step is important. If there is excess liquid it will cause the casserole to have a soupy residue underneath.
  • Add the Worcestershire sauce and cream cheese. Cook until the cream cheese has melted.
  • Remove the skillet from heat.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the eggs, shredded parmesan reggiano cheese, and heavy cream.
  • Spray an 8 x 11 or 9x9 baking dish (I used 8 x11) with oil or cooking spray. Pour the steak mixture into the dish.
  • Drizzle the liquid egg and cheese mixture on top. Top with the provolone cheese slices.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese begins to bubble. Mine was ready around 18.
  • Cool before serving.

Video

Notes

I recommend parmesan reggiano cheese in this recipe because it has sooooo much flavor! You can substitute parmesan if you wish, but parmesan reggiano is my recommendation.

I made this tonight and it tasted great but found the beef to be tough. Any recomendation on how to make the beef more tender? I used tenderloin an cut into very thin strips. Other than that the flavour was really good.

I don’t have this problem, but I would use a tender cut of meat. You can cook it separately and use a meat thermometer to check doneness to ensure you aren’t overcooking it.

I have made this twice. Loved it both times. So did my picky hubby. I did it with pork loin instead as that was much cheaper in my neighborhood. Still terrific! Thanks! And, yes, the Worcestershire does add a lot!

Brandi, this recipe is one of my husband's favorites which I thought I would never say. He has been trying diets and giving up after first 10 pounds. He was 370 pounds and now 346. He decided for him to do Keto at Dinner to help me, so I decided to make things I thought he might like.....I take this and put them with Mission low carb Tortillas....talk about good, with a Keto Salsa...and sour cream sometimes even Guacamole. It has become of my favorite dinners. Thank you and my husband thanks you.

We just make cheesesteaks in a frying pan without making it into a casserole -- so no eggs, cream or Worcestershire sauce. We also add onion and hot peppers when we can find organic ones.

Made this last night, only thing I changed was that I used canned mushrooms. It was a little bland so I will add more seasonings next time but it was fabulous! I used Steakumms for the steak and although it fell apart while cooking still worked out.

This was so good, and easy! My hubby hates mushrooms but he ate them in the recipe and didn't say a word lol. I also used some jalepeno for a bit of kick, but still could have used more flavor, so I'll probably ramp up the seasonings next time.

This was even better than anticipated! I made this in my Ninja Foodi Airfryer/cooker appliance. So easy and quick! Scaled down to 2 servings. Sautéed the onions and peppers, added mushrooms and sautéed. Added leftover sliced steak, cream cheese, Worcestershire and garlic until fragrant. Turned off, poured on egg mix and topped with mozzarella and cheddar (wish i had provolone). Baked in same appliance for 10 minutes. That cream cheese and Worcestershire sauce really added the flavor! This satisfied the hunger I had. Made 2 servings. Will definately make this again. Thank you!

Let me tell you. My apartment is smelling so good right now. It came out perfect even with the regular shredded parm. I just sprinkled some pizza parm on top. It's delicious.
    You better know
I'm going for the "good parm" the next time I make this just so I can experience the awesomeness of that particular cheese.
Don't think, Please just make this casserole & "You're Welcome :). Mine baked & was beautifully browned at about 23-25 mins.
