Tasty burgers need seasoning. What you season them with is crucial. A lot of store-bought blends have additives. I love to make my own creations at home.

How to Store the Seasoning/How Long Will it Last

If you are making a large batch of the Burger Seasoning, store it in an airtight container. I love to use these glass jars for storage. Ground spices usually last for 6 months. After that they will start to lose their flavor. I check this by giving the jar a whiff. If the smell is still potent it's probably still good.

Whole spices will last up to 5 years.

Tips on How to Make the Perfectly Cooked Burgers

  • Ground chuck beef is the best cut to use and at 80% lean. 75% lean will work as well. You can use leaner cuts of meat, but expect a drier burger.
  • Over-working the meat will cause it to be tough, dry, and it's more likely to fall apart when you get it on the grill and get to flipping it. It's best to use minimal shaping.
  • Once shaped, press down into the center of the burger using your thumb. This will alway the patty to cook evenly and maintain a circular shape as it grills.
  • Cold meat will stick together when you place it on the grill. Warm or room temperature meat will crumble and fall apart.
  • According to the USDA, hamburgers should be cooked to a safe minimum internal temperature to destroy harmful bacteria that may be present. Use a food thermometer to be sure they have reached a safe minimum internal temperature of 160 °F.

I used this seasoning for burgers today - they turned out so flavorful (and super juicy, but that’s because I also followed Brandi’s instructions in her “how to grill the best burgers” post - don’t sleep on that!) The brown sugar with the smoked paprika is a delicious combination, and even better added in with the onions and garlic. I followed the directions and used 1 tablespoon of seasoning per pound of meat, and it was a success! My step-son even had two burgers and complimented their flavor!

This seasoning plus Butcher Box burgers had my family drooling and complimenting me left and right this past weekend. This mix will be getting its own spice container so it’s always available. Thanks for yet another winner!
