If you’ve ever tried making frosé at home and ended up with a chunky mess or something more like a smoothie than a slush—don’t worry, I’ve been there. That’s exactly why I tested and re-tested this Ninja Slushi Frosé until it was just right. My version nails the perfect texture: smooth, icy, and sip-ready in minutes without watering down the flavor.

Two coupe glasses filled with thick, vibrant red frosé on a round wooden board with a purple cloth in the background.

I’ve played with different ratios, frozen fruit combos, and mixers so you don’t have to guess—just follow the steps and enjoy a cocktail that feels like it came straight from a rooftop bar. Trust me, once you make this once, you’ll be hooked every summer.

Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Combine water, frozen fruit, wine, and sugar or sweetener in a blender and blend until well combined.
  2. Add the mixture to the Ninja Slushi Machine.
  3. Allow the machine to churn and freeze the mixture until the machine beeps to signal the cycle is finished.

How to Fix Error Messages Related to Alcohol

If you've tried making a margarita, piña colada, or any frozen cocktail in this machine, you might have run into error messages, improper freezing, or inconsistent texture. Trust me, I understand. It happened to me several times when I created this recipe. Here’s why and how to fix it.

  • Alcohol Doesn’t Freeze Well – Since alcohol has a much lower freezing point than water, high-proof spirits can prevent proper slush formation. Too much alcohol in the mix can cause the machine to fail to shave properly or not dispense the slush at all.
  • Wrong Liquid Ratios – The Ninja Slushi Machine needs the right balance of water-based liquids and alcohol for proper freezing. Too little liquid = slushie won’t form. Too much liquid = the drink won’t get thick enough.
  • Thick Syrups & Juices Can Cause Issues – Using thick fruit juices, syrups, or creamy ingredients can make the machine work harder and sometimes lead to clumping or uneven freezing.
  • Overfilling the Machine – The Ninja Slushi Machine has a minimum and maximum fill line for a reason. Overfilling it can cause it to struggle with freezing and dispensing.

How to Make Perfect Frozen Cocktails in the Ninja Slushi Machine

If a drink exceeds the maximum alcohol, temperature control lights will flash one at a time in ascending order starting with the bottom LED, preset LEDs will flash, and the unit will beep every minute for 15 minutes. If this happens you need to add more water or something like sparkling water.

  • Stick to 1-1.5 oz alcohol per serving – Any more and the drink won’t freeze properly.
  • Dilute with extra water, juice, or mixer – Helps create a smooth, thick slush.
  • Use pre-chilled ingredients – This helps the machine freeze the mix faster and prevents melting.
  • Avoid thick syrups or creamy ingredients – If using, mix well with water or juice to thin them out.
  • Don’t overfill the machine – Stick to the fill line (64oz) for best results.

How to Make it Using a Blender

A high-speed blender with a slush or ice crush setting can work best. If using a normal blender, add ice and continue to blend (and add more ice) until the slush reaches your desired texture.

Frequently Asked Questions and Pro Tips

Can I use any kind of rosé?

Yes, but dry rosé works best for me—it balances the sweetness from the fruit and any add-ins.

Do I have to freeze the rosé first?

Nope! The Ninja Slushi does the work for you. Just make sure your fruit is frozen. If you use fresh fruit, keep in mind the machine will take longer to process.

Is it sweet enough on its own?

Depends on your fruit and rosé. Taste and adjust with a touch of sugar, sweetener, or simple syrup.

How strong is the alcohol flavor?

It’s mild and refreshing—more like a wine slush than a cocktail, but you can boost it with vodka or liqueur if you want it stronger.

Can I make it ahead of time?

This one’s best served right away, but you can freeze leftovers and re-blend for round two.

Can I make a non-alcoholic version?

Swap the rosé for pink lemonade or sparkling juice and skip the booze.

Equipment

  • Ninja Slushi Frozen Drink Machine

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle rosé wine 750ML/25 ounces
  • ½-1 cup sugar or sweetener Adjust to suit your taste. I used ½ cup
  • 5-6 cups frozen fruit I used a mix of cherries and strawberries

Instructions

  • Combine water, frozen fruit, wine, and sugar or sweetener in a blender and blend until well combined. Taste repeatedly and make adjustments to suit your taste if needed.
  • Add the mixture to the Ninja Slushi Machine. Be sure not to exceed 64oz. Prepare the drink in batches if necessary. Power on the machine and press Spiked Slush.
  • Allow the machine to churn and freeze the mixture until the machine beeps to signal the cycle is finished. You can adjust the thickness of the mixture using the side panel. The slush should take 20-45 minutes. Mine took less than 20 minutes.
  • Pull the lever on the spout to dispense the drink. Serve.

Notes

During my testing I found, if you want a thick slush you have to had some frozen fruit to thicken it up.
