Years ago when McDonald's had their Frozen Strawberry Lemonade, I was all over it! It was perfect for summer. That version has come and gone, but I'm glad I can make this at home, and I love to make it sugar free and low calorie!

What Type of Strawberries to Use

I always recommend frozen fruit when making frozen drinks. Frozen strawberries will help produce a nice, thick texture. You can also use fresh strawberries if you wish. Fresh strawberries are often sweeter than frozen. If you use fresh strawberries you will need more ice to thicken up the lemonade.

Key Ingredients

  • Strawberries
  • Water
  • Lemon Juice
  • Sugar or Sweetener

What Type of Sweetener to Use

You can use standard regular table sugar or any sugar-free alternative you want.

I use organic monkfruit in this recipe to keep it sugar-free. It measures 1:1 like regular table sugar. It has zero calories, no carbs, and won’t spike your blood sugar.

Feel free to use your preferred sweetener. If you use stevia, maple syrup, or artificial sweeteners, you will have to convert the servings. Since monkfruit measures 1:1 you can follow your standard method for calculating it.

How to Make Frozen Blended Strawberry Lemonade

Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  1. Combine strawberries, water, sweetener, lemon juice, and ice in a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Taste the mixture repeatedly and make adjustments to suit your taste.
  3. Serve in glasses.

Can You Use Bottled Lemon Juice

Sure, you can if you want. I’m not a fan of the taste, so I don’t buy it. Bottled lemon juice is a product made from freshly squeezed lemon juice that has been pasteurized and packaged in bottles for convenience and extended shelf life.

How to Get the Thick Lemonade

When using fresh fruit for frozen drinks, be sure to use plenty of ice. You will need ice no matter what, even if using frozen strawberries. Add plenty of ice to the blender to help thicken the lemonade.

Make sure you have a powerful blender that can crush the ice and mix the ingredients together smoothly. A blender with high horsepower and sturdy blades is best for making frozen drinks.

Additional Flavors and Substitutions

  • Mango
  • Watermelon
  • Pineapple
  • Peach
  • Apple

How Long Will it Last

You can store leftover lemonade in the fridge for 3 days. You can blend it again with more ice. From there you can freeze the leftovers.

Equipment

  • High Powered Blender

Ingredients

  • 4 cups strawberries I used frozen.
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice This was 4-5 lemons for me.
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ - 1 cup sweetener or sugar Adjust to taste. Tangy, zesty lemonade needs ¼ cup. Sweet lemonade will need ½ cup or more.
  • 2-4 cups ice

Instructions

  • Add all of the ingredients (including 2-4 cups of ice) to a blender. Blend until smooth. Add additional ice to thicken the lemonade if necessary.
The water is used to help get the blender blades going. If 1 cup isn't enough, add more.
  • Taste the mixture repeatedly and make adjustments to suit your taste. If you like it sweet, add more sweetener. More sour, add more lemon juice.
  • Serve in glasses.

Notes

  • The number of lemons you will need will vary based on the size of the lemons you use and how much juice you can get from each.
  • Adjust this recipe to suit your taste and needs. If you like really sweet lemonade, add more sweetener. The overall taste will vary greatly because some strawberries are sweeter than others, some lemons are more tart than others. It’s up to you to taste the lemonade and adjust to suit what you like. Add more lemon, strawberries, and sweetener as necessary.
  • You can use bottled lemon juice if you want. I do not like the taste, so I don’t use it.
  • If you are having trouble juicing the lemons, place them in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. This will help soften them up.
  • Macros assume monkfruit zero calorie and zero carb sweetener is used. If using refined sugar, feel free to use the macro nutrition calculator of your choice to calculate the nutrition for your batch.
